Iran FM Calls For Turkish Peace Efforts In Syria

Tehran, May 26, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi on Saturday called for the Turkish governmentˈs peace efforts in Syria. In a meeting with Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey Mehdi Eker in Tehran, Salehi said the Geneva 2 meeting is hoped to find an effective way to settle the Syrian crisis. He said regional states are required to help resolve the issue of Syria and prevent the crisis getting complicated. Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi recalled very good relations between Iran and Turkey in the political sector and said the two governments would work together to meet the needs in the fields of agriculture, livesotck products, oil seeds and other agro-products. Salehi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches importance to Turkey as a trade partner to provide shortages of one another and co-operate in regional markets. Eker for his part noted that Iran and Turkey share historical, geographic, cultural and religious common grounds serving as a major factor to bring the two nations closer to each other. He said relations between the two nations should be strong and they should help settle each otherˈs regional problems. The Turkish official said Syria problem would not be settled without engagement of Tehran and Ankara. He said while having relations within the Economic Cooperation Organization, Iran and Turkey have ties in the context of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the alliance of eight developing nations (D8)./end
