ELECTRONICS PRODUCTS PROJECTED TO INCREASE 300 PCT

Jakarta, Nov 6 (ANTARA) - General Chairman of Electronics Producers Association (Gabel) Rachmat Gobel said domestic electronics products were predicted to increase by 300 percent as the government was tightening the imports of the commodity.

"When the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) were investigating the directorate general of customs and excise, imports were declining while production was increasing," he said here on Wednesday.

With the tightening of the importation of the commodity, production at home would increase to two or three-folds, Gobel said after attending a national coordination meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

The Ministry of Trade has previously issued a regulation which tighten the importation of five consumption goods, namely electronics, footwear, toys, food and drink as well as garment.

He said that so far about 50 percent domestic electronics products circulated at home were imported ones, of which 80 percent illegal goods.
