Marked Improvement In Overall Haze Situation - DOE

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- The overall haze situation in the country has improved significantly although the Air Pollutant Index (API) recorded in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan remained at the unhealthy level at 8pm Thursday night. The Department of Environment (DOE) in its postal said the API in Nilai showed 113 compared with 119 at 6pm while 23 other areas registered moderate readings compared with 24 at 6pm. Among the areas were Pasir Gudang (72), Kota Tinggi (84), Larkin Lama (65), Muar (65) in Johor; Bukit Rambai (87), Melaka City (70) in Melaka; Seremban (76), Port Dickson (68) in Negeri Sembilan; Banting (90), Petaling Jaya (64), Shah Alam (59) in Selangor and Putrajaya (70). API readings from 0 to 50 is classified as good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and 301 to 499 is hazardous. Readings of 500 and beyond are dangerous. Meanwhile, DOE in a statement said 293 open burning reports were received from June 14 to 26. -- BERNAMA
