Indonesia's Beach Volleyball Team Joins World Championship

Jakarta, July 22 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian men`s team of beach volleyball represented by M. Ashfiya and Rendy Licardo took part in the Beach Volleyball World Championship under the age 19 years in Porto, Portugal, over the weekend. Ashfiya, 17, and Rendy, 16, in their nothing-to-lose way of playing, in qualifying round, beat the teams of New Zealand and the host country, said Tri Wahyuni, an information section official of the Indonesian Embassy in Lisbon, in a statement on Monday. The opposing teams did not think that the Indonesian team members whose bodies are not as tall as the European and Latin American players, can skip nimbly, smashed and block the ball. Around 30 Indonesian nationals in Porto looked on the beach volleyball match, he said. Meanwhile, Indonesian beach volleyball coach Slamet Mulyanto said participation of the two athletes was a strategy to train a mentality in the face of world championship.
