New Railway Train In Service From Banten To East Java

Lebak, Banten, July 24 (Antara) - State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) launched a new express train serving the route between Merak in Banten Province and Madiun in East Java Province on Wednesday. The new train will help facilitate transport of Muslims working in Banten to their home villages to celebrate Idul Fitri with relatives in Central Java and East Java, Didin Wahyudin, the head of the Rangkasbitung station of PT KAI, said said here on Wednesday. Migrant workers from Central Java and East Java in Lebak District welcome the operation of the new train. The train will provide them more convenient transports, Didin said. Previously railway travelers from Lebak to Central Java or East Java had to go to the Gambir station in Jakarta, not they could board the train in Rangkasbitung. Most migrant workers choose to travel by train as the fare is lower and it is more convenient and safer. On Wednesday morning the Rangkasbitung station was already crowded by Muslims among migrant workers wanting to visit relatives in the eastern parts of Java to celebrate the Islamic holy day in the second weeks of next month. Every year, millions of Muslims from Jakarta and surrounding areas make a visit to home villages in other regions in Java and Sumatra to join their relatives for the celebrations.
