Katara Celebrates Garangao

Doha, July 24 (QNA) -Katara is to recreate the traditional feel of Garangao celebrations, giving children the opportunity to go door to door for candy and gifts tonight. Organised with the Childhood Cultural Center, the festival is set to attract thousands of visitors who will enjoy Qatari heritage, reflecting its past with entertaining events for children, families and residents. Children participating in the Garangao night will have the chance to collect goodies at 16 points around Katara. The celebration will begin with a theatrical concert at 7pm today at Building 12, followed by entertaining events related to the national heritage, in addition to educational activities such as Alhzayah or Arrawi (narrator) who will discuss cultural and historical subjects, as well as the traditions of Qatari people in celebrating Garangao. Garangao night will also include puppet theatre, reading corner, art workshop, short story writing, photography corner, handicraft corner and talent corner. Children will also have the opportunity to try out traditional games like Al Dahroa, Al Jiss and Al Sabh. Malika Mohammed Al Shuraim, Director of the Communication and Public Relations Department in Katara, said preparations for Garangao night had been completed and it would be the best Garangao celebration in Katara, taking into account the expertise it gained in past years.
