STRONG BELGIAN ECONOMIC DELEGATION TO VISIT RI

Jakarta, Nov 12 (ANTARA) - Belgium has a positive image of Indonesia and is therefore planning to send a strong economic delegation to Indonesia to explore the possibility of expanding Belgian business activities in the archipelagic country, Belgian Ambassador to Indonesia Marc Trenteseau said.
Despite some recent rallies and a slightly tense situation following the execution of three Bali bombers, Belgian companies which have been operating in Indonesia for years would not stop their operations in the country, the ambassador told Antara here Wednesday after a press conference on the upcoming visit of a Belgian economic mission to Indonesia.
"Yes, there is a travel advisory for Belgian people who intend to visit Indonesia but we don't say they may not go to Indonesia," the amsaddaor said, adding that the travel advisory was issued to show the government's responsibilty of reminding people about possible dangers which could also occur in other countries.
He said about 500 Belgians , including businessmen, were living in Indonesia and they were continuing to do businesses as usual because Indonesia with its population of more than 220 million was an interesting and important country as well as a big market.
In support of the ambassador's remarks, the cconomic and commercial attache at the Belgian embassy, Dominique Vanderhaehen, said with regard to security in Indonesia, there was no worry about it because the upcoming visit of the Belgian economic mission had been prepared with Indonesian authorities for months.
Dominique said the Belgian businesspeople did not consider a visit to Indonesia to be very risky.
The Belgian economic delegation would comprise representatives of 70 companies engaged in various fields and was scheduled to visit Indonesia including West Java province from November 21 to 26, 2008.
The ambassador said it would be the first time after 20 years for a Belgian economic mission to come to Indonesia. It would be led by Prince Philippe in the company of his wife, Princess Mathilde.
Belgium wished to expand its businesses in Indonesia because of the latter's mature democracy, growing economy and its leading position in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), he said, adding that another reason was the fact that Belgium had many companies in Indonesia.
During the visit to Indonesia, the Belgian economic mission was slated to have meetings with Indonesian businesspeople and relevant officials in Jakarta, Bandung and Karawang (West Java), in the fields of trade and investment.
The visiting economic mission would consists of businesspeople engaged in construction, jewelry, energy, environment, information and technology, fashion, transportation, medicine, food and beverages, electricity as well as oil and gas industries among other things.
