Iran FM Departs To Iraq

Tehran, Sept 8, IRNA - Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif left Tehran for Baghdad, capital of Iraq, on Sunday to hold talks with senior Iraqi officials. Zarif is scheduled to meet with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi during his day-long stay in Baghdad. Zarif’s trip to Iraq is considered as his first foreign travel after assuming office of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Speaking prior to his departure, he referred to Iraq as an important neighbor of Iran. He noted his travel to Iraq aimed at discussing issues of mutual interest with Iraqi officials./end
