Work on new terminals at Jeddah airport next month

Jeddah, November 12, SPA -- The General Authority for Civil Aviation
(GACA) has set the month of Muharram, which begins on Dec. 29, as the
date for laying the foundations of new terminals at the King Abdul
Aziz International Airport here.

Eng. Abdullah Ruheimi, president of the GACA, said the terminals
would include 42 departure gates with 74 connecting route-ways
serving a range of aircraft types. Aircraft hangars and a new control
tower are also planned, plus an aircraft loading area capable of
handling three million tons per year, and car parking space for
25,000 vehicles.

The first stage of construction also includes the railway station
zone, maintenance facility areas, road networks and aircraft
corridors, according to a report published by Arabic newspaper "OKAZ"
quoted today by the Jeddah-based Saudi Gazette.
