SCG To Build A Cement Factory In Sukabumi

Jakarta, Sept 23 (Antara) - Siam Cement Group (SCG) said it will build an environmentally friendly cement factory in Sukabumi, West Java this month. SCG`s subsidiary PT Semen Jawa will start construction on Friday, September 27, Kan Trakulhoon, president of the Thailand-based cement company, said here on Monday. "The project will serve as an example for cement factory using technology designed to protect the environment with high security standard," Trakulhoon said. The technology will prevent cement emission from polluting the air almost 100 percent, he said. It would be the first factory of SCG in Indonesia or in ASEAN outside Thailand. "We will also use surface mining machine in the mining process to reduce ashes, tremors and noise," he said. Milling process is designed with the latest energy efficient technology such as "Vertical Mill" which is highly efficient in the use of electricity. "We will ensure that the factory would not cause inconvenience to the people living around the area where it is operating," he said. The project to cost Rp3,438 billion, will be built in two phases with the first phase to have a production capacity of 1.8 million tons a year. The second phase of development will follow after the first phase has been in operation. It will produce two types of premium quality cement with Indonesian National Standard (SNI) including Ordinary Portland Cement, which is used for building with highly strong structure and Portland Composite Cement, which is used for general construction such as for plastering and brick laying.
