RI, MALAYSIA DISCUSS KEPRI-JOHOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC WORKING GROUP
Melaka, Malaysia, Nov 13 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian and Malaysian governments here on Thursday discussed the establishment of a Riau Islands Social and Economic Working Group with Johor (Sosekda Kepri-Johor).
In a meeting of technical teams of both parties, Malaysia asked for setting a terms of reference (TOR) for the working group before setting up a working group on Social Economic General Border Committee for the two countries (GBC Malindo).
In the meeting, the Indonesian delegation was led by Kausar Ali Hasan of the Home Affairs Ministry, while the Malaysian delegation by Dato Muhamad Ghazali.
Responding to the Malaysian request, Indonesia said it would be ready to arrange the terms of reference which would be discussed with the West Kalimantan-Serawak Sosekda, East Kalimantan-Sabah Sosekda, and the Riau-Johor Sosekda.
The Working Group of Sosek Malindo is a forum under the Malaysia-Indonesia General Border Committee (GBC Malindo) to discuss socio-economic development cooperation in the border areas of the two countries.
The Sosek Malindo working committee at present supervises three working groups (Pokjas), namely West Kalimantan-Serawak, Sosekda East Kalimantan-Sabah, and Riau-Johar sosekdas.
In the closed-door meeting, both parties also discussed the establishment of a security check point for Lubok Antu (Malaysia)-Nangau Badau border crossers.
In the discussions, Indonesia said the Nangau Badau security check point was in its finishing touches and ready to be operated in 2009.
While Malaysia said it would soon build a check point in Lubon Antu starting in August 2008 for completion in 18 months.
Following the construction of checkpoints in Aruk (Indonesia) and in Biawak (Malaysia), the two posts would also function as exit and entry points.
About the construction of Serikin-Jagoi Babang checkpoints, Indonesia asked Malaysia to make a schedule on the zero points between Serikin and Jago Babang.
