Int'l Port Project In Malang To Cost Rp50 Trillion
Malang, East Java, Oct 3(Antara) - Construction planned of an international seaport in South Malang, East Java, would cost around Rp50 trillion, a local official said.
Malang District Head Rendra Kresna said here on Thursday the feasibility study of the project to be built at the coastal village of Pantai Tamban in the sub-district of Sumbermanjing Wetan has been completed.
The result of the feasibility study has been handed over to the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), Rendra said.
"Pantai Tamban is more suitable than Sendangbiru for the location of an international port," he said.
Access in road infrastructure to Pantai Tamban is better with the availability of alternative road from the south, he said.
However, the budget is too big for the district administration, he said, adding the central government needs to be involved in financing.
The central government also is expected to find an investors to build the project, he said.
The regency of Malang has regional budget of only Rp2.5 trillion and 60 percent of which would be for personnel salaries, he said.
He said the port would boost development of the district economy in various sectors including agriculture, fishery , etc. and redeuce poverty
Earlier, the Malang district administration has plan to build "Water Front City" at Pantai Sendangbiru, and feasibility study was already made , but the project failed to come to reality.
The concept of Water Front City was to build a port integrated with a self supporting city, he said.
