Deputy Minister Hails ABB Malaysia's Investment In Robotics Centre

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd's initiative to invest US$944,437 (RM3 million) in a robotics centre in Malaysia should be appreciated, said Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, AbuBakar Mohamad Diah. "The initiative taken by ABB is good because before this, anyone interested in buying robots will have to go overseas, but today Malaysians are capable of producing them," he said at the opening of the centre at Subang near here Thursday. Abu Bakar said the setting up of the centre would also help reduce the number of foreign workers in the country. "It will increase our productivity and we will be able to produce sophisticated products in time to come," he said. Meanwhile, its President and Country Manager of ABB Malaysia, Stephen Pearce, said that 90 per cent of its 700 employees were locals. ABB Malaysia's centre will showcase innovative solutions for key markets such as automotive, metal fabrication, foundry, food and beverage, electronics, plastics. -- BERNAMA
