Georgia welcomes European Parliament’s resolution supporting initialing of Association Agreement with EU

Georgia, Tbilisi, October 24/Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/ The Georgian government welcomes the resolution of the European Parliament supporting the initialing of the Association Agreement with the European Union (EU). The resolution emphasizes the EU's obligations to the participants of the "Eastern Partnership" and Georgia's aspirations with regard to European integration. "The resolution adopted before the Vilnius Summit of the "Eastern Partnership" is the admission of the progress achieved by Georgia on the way of modernization and meeting demands of the Association Agreement and points out that the European Parliament supports the initialing of the Association Agreement in the upcoming summit," the statement of the Georgian government published on Thursday said. "We warmly welcome the support of the European Parliament to the democratic reforms in Georgia. There is still much to be done and the Association Agreement will play a key role in speeding up and deepening of the reformation," the statement said. According to the governmental statement, the resolution was adopted a few days before the presidential election that will be held in Georgia on October 27. The Eastern Partnership Programme is a Polish-Swedish initiative under the EU Neighbourhood Policy aimed at improving EU relations with six former Soviet countries Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine and Armenia. The program envisages the allocation of 600 million Euros to these countries to strengthen state institutions, control borders and help small companies.
