Iranian Armed Forces General Staff supports nuclear talks

Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 4 /Trend N. Umid/ Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran, General Seyyed Hassan Firouzabadi has announced that he supports Iran's nuclear talks` delegation, Fars news agency reported on November 4. He also underlined that Iran should not trust enemies saying "we should see the real face behind the enemy's smile." On November 3, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also announced his support of the Iranian delegation. "No one should consider our negotiating team as compromisers," Khamenei said, adding that they have a hard mission and nobody should undermine them. The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon, something Iran denies. Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany known as the P5+1, held an expert level meeting over Tehran's disputed nuclear activities on October 31. The two-day meeting was meant to prepare for the next round of political negotiations on November 7-8, by building on a diplomatic opening created by the election of Hassan Rouhani as the new Iranian president. The discussions were the latest in a series of meetings over the past month, as Iran and the powers step up diplomatic efforts to try and end the decade old row. At talks with P5+1 in Geneva on October 15-16, Iran submitted a new proposal on its nuclear issue. The two sides issued a joint statement at the end of the talks for the first time.
