MONGOL GER ADDED TO LIST OF INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE IN UNESCO

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On Friday, the Mongolian national dwelling "Ger" and associated with it customs were registered unanimously to the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the UNESCO at the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Secretary-General of Mongolian National Commission for the UNESCO G.Jargalsaikhan expressed an appreciation to all for this decision. The Ger has been created by the Mongolians and has overcome the nature's criteria through many centuries, he added. He also noted a significance of the implementation of the Safeguard of Intangible Cultural Heritage convention that marks its 10th year anniversary this year, and said Mongolia will continue keeping and protecting its valuable heritages. Thus the Ger has become the sixth piece of the Mongolian heritage the UNESCO has registered. The session has been running in Baku city of Azerbaijan December 2-7 with a participation of 157 members of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
