Tariq bin Fasel Al Qasimi wins European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Lisbon (WAM): Sheikh Tariq bin Fasel Al Qasimi has won the European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship, heavyweight division, after defeating German rival Andreas Argubi in the final round brown belt, adding a new achievement to the UAE's sports accolades. The three-day tournament was organised in Lisbon, Portugal, from the 24th to the 27th of January under the supervision of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Sheikh Tariq bin Fasel Al Qasimi demonstrated outstanding abilities during the competition and showed excellent technique in Jiu-Jitsu - the Brazilian and Japanese martial art and combat sport that focuses on striking and grappling, particularly ground grappling. Al Qasimi was selected winner by the judge panel after his consistently outstanding performance that was highly appreciated by enthusiastic fans from all over the world. Experts attributed the UAE squad's series of wins in this tournament, in addition to Al Qasimi impressive win in heavyweight division, to the evolution of this sport in the country and the great support from leaders and decision makers in sports sector.
