The State Investigation Department (SID) has launched an investigation over a case of some youngsters who have posted their picture on facebook page, showing a killing of a wolf by a car. The case is considered as illegal act within the country, and also shows a bad example to the public.
Thus, criminal proceedings have been initiated over the case, and it has been transmitted into the Ulaanbaatar city’s Prosecutor’s Office. Besides this case, the SID is investigating a number of such pictures with inhumane acts posted through the social media.
On occasion of the World Wildlife Day to be marked on the 3rd of March, the Mongolian Ministry of Environment and Green Development has started a public propaganda about ecological importance of animals and plants, and then announced to firmly combat against poaching.
By the law, a sanction of illicit hunting of wolves is a fine of up to 200 thousand Togrogs, and the illegal hunting of brown bear has the fine of 15 million Togrogs. Furthermore, a poacher can be fined with money that is 2 to 5 times higher than the minimum size of salary depending on cases. The criminal proceedings can be initiated over the poacher as well.
According to statistics from the Ministry’s Department for Environment and Natural Resources, approximately 250 thousand people in Mongolia do hunting animals. This equals 10-20% of the country’s population, and 60-80% of the total people do not hunt animals, and the rest of the people are haters of hunting. In order not to increase the number of hunters, the Ministry urges people not to post pictures or videos of hunting on the social media.
Moreover, automatic and semi-automatic rifles used by the hunters in ngolia are classified as illegal tools for hunting.
