QCC launches Toys Conformity Scheme in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, QCC, has announced the launch of a conformity scheme that ensures children's toys in Abu Dhabi (aimed at 0-14 years old) comply with UAE safety standards and requirements. Toys that meet the scheme's requirements will be awarded the Abu Dhabi Trustmark, allowing consumers to make better purchasing decisions when shopping for toys. The Children Toys Conformity Scheme is developed in accordance with international guidelines and best practices. Only after a comprehensive product assessment through a specifically designed and systematic process will products be awarded the Abu Dhabi Trustmark. The conformity scheme includes all mandatory requirements such as the applicable standards to be met, the tests to be carried out successfully and the evidence of controlled production process to ensure continuous compliance to the requirements. Through their market surveillance programmes, QCC inspectors conduct routine monitoring activities to ensure that safety standards of children toys are uniformly maintained throughout the emirate. Toy suppliers seeking the Trustmark certification are invited to apply. Abdulla Al Khoori, Acting Executive Director for Consumer and Market Services at QCC, said, "The UAE toy market is expanding exponentially. Catering to various age groups, the toy market is both versatile and potentially volatile with new product lines posing several quality, safety, health and environment concerns. The Toy Conformity Scheme launched by QCC will provide consumers the trust in toys bearing the Abu Dhabi Trust Mark." Al Khoori also encourages consumers to purchase products that bear the Abu Dhabi Trustmark. Muna Salmin, Acting Director of Consumer Safety Services, highlighted the importance of the scheme, saying, "Ensuring that children toys meet the safety requirements is one of the main goals of QCC. Through this specific conformity scheme, manufacturers and importers can get their products recognized with the Abu Dhabi Trustmark which will boost the consumers' confidence in the safety of the products." – Emirates News Agency, WAM
