Jahangiri Calls For Iran-Algeria Co-op To Counter Terrorism

Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA – Iran and Algeria as two main victims of terrorism should join hands to counter terrorism and extremism and try to represent a real image of Islam to the world, First Vice-President Es-haq Jahangiri said on Monday. Jahangiri made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Algerian delegate minister for Maghreb and African Affairs, Abdulmajid Abu Guerra. During the meeting, Jahangiri expressed his condolences on the plane crash in Algeria which killed all those on board. He hailed friendly ties between Iran and Algeria, calling for regular consultations between the Iranian and Algerian officials and the joint cooperation commission to convene regularly. The Iranian first vice-president urged both countries to make use of wide opportunities for further expansion of bilateral cooperation. Jahangiri expressed hope that the next Iran-Nigeria joint cooperation commission would lead to finding a road-map for promotion of relations. Elsewhere in his remarks, Jahangiri voiced Iranˈs readiness to share its experiences with Algeria in different fields, such as electricity generation and construction of power plants. He criticized the low level of trade between the two countries, calling for enhanced trade and economic cooperation. Jahangiri praised positive stand of the Algerian officials in regard to the November 24 nuclear deal in Geneva between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany. The Algerian official, for his part, underlined the necessity of expansion of bilateral relations, particularly in energy and trade areas. Abu Guerra noted that Iran and Algeria share view on main regional and international issues, particularly on Egypt, Syria and the Middle East./end
