Azerbaijan can annually export over 2 billion kW/h electricity

Baku, Azerbaijan, March 6 By Emil Ismayilov - Trend: In 2013, Azerbaijani power grid's capacity grew by 12.9 percent and reached 7,100 megawatts, according to Azerbaijani government's report for year 2013, submitted to the country's parliament for consideration. Such a capacity of the power grid makes it possible to produce 22-24 billion kilowatt/hours electricity and ensure export of 2.1 billion kilowatt/hours electricity, according to the report. "Development of the electricity sector continued in 2013 at a rapid pace due to the ongoing economic reforms that further strengthened the country's energy security," Azerbaijani government said. In 2013, Azerbaijan produced 23.2 billion kilowatt/hours electricity; about 20.8 billion kilowatt/hours of this electricity accounted for Azerenergy JSC, which is a major electricity producer in the country, according to the report. Out of the remaining part of electricity produced in Azerbaijan, some 748.4 million kilowatt/hours accounted for State Energy Agency of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, about 1.67 billion kilowatt/hours - for independent power plants, including 1.4 million kilowatt/hours were provided by means of wind energy regeneration. The capacity of the power plants owned by Azerenergy exceeds 6.5 megawatts.
