US official commends efforts of Sheikha Fatima on women empowerment

Abu Dhabi (WAM): US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues Catherine Russell - US Department of State, has praised the efforts of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, and of the Family Development Foundation and President of Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on empowering and supporting the women cause. She cited the role of Sheikha Fatima since the inception of Union to date, referring to her regional and international humanitarian contributions. Ambassador Russell praised the urban and economic development being witnessed by the UAE in all fields, especially those in which women are involved. The US ambassador made the remarks, while being received by Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State and Adviser to the Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. They discussed issues pertaining to women in both countries. Dr. Maitha shed light on the support to women by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. She commended the pioneer role of Sheikha Fatima in enabling women in all sectors, citing the women partnership in decision making and representation in the legislative and executive authorities. Dr. Maitha said Emirati female students outnumber their male peers in universities.
