Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni’s works translated into Persian

TEHRAN,Apr.13|(MNA) – A collection of eight plays by Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793) has recently been translated into Persian. Translated by Ali Shams, the collection includes “The Lair”, “The Persian Bride”, “The Comical Theater”, “The Wise Nymph”, “The Fake Illness” and “The Miser”. The story of “The Persian Bride” is set in Isfahan during the Safavid period (1501-1722), Shams told the Persian service of MNA on Saturday. It presents an interesting contrast between European and Oriental morals, he added. Goldoni’s two other famous plays, “The Mistress of the Inn” and “The Servant of Two Masters”, have previously been translated into Persian, he stated. Shams also said that he is negotiating with a company to publish the books, which could act as a good, comprehensive source for adaptation. Shams, who has previously directed several plays, staged “From Khvatay-namak” based on the story of Rustam and Sohrab from Ferdowsi’s masterpiece Shahnameh in Rome and Florence in 2012. Goldoni’s works are among Italy’s most popular plays. His works have been admired for their ingenious mix of wit and honesty.
