Sustainable development of regions

Astana, 26 November 2008 (Khabar) - Regions fail to elaborate their purposeful activities of passing to sustainable development. Nurlan Iskakov, Minister for Environmental Protection said this at the extended sitting. He stressed the other ministries are not very active in this work though the conception of passing of Kazakhstan to sustainable development was adopted two years ago. The document is elaborated for 18 years and regions must elaborate plans on passing to sustainable development by the next spring. But only the Aktobe region presented detailed programme. Andrey Korchevskiy, member of Council on sustainable development under the government reminded the regions and spheres during elaborating must orient for purposeful activities such as raise of effectiveness of using of resources, implementation of breakthrough technologies, increase of average life duration and ecological safety.

Nurlan Iskakov, Minister for Environmental Protection of RK:
- The work is not done actively, as for effectiveness of human, financial and organizational resources, the conceptions on their using were not elaborated neither in regions nor in spheres.
