UAE takes part in Arab League Council emergency meeting

Cairo: Mohammed bin Nakhaira Al Dhahiri, UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to Arab League, yesterday here chaired the UAE delegation in the Arab League Council's emergency meeting at the level of permanent representatives, held at the General Secretariat Headquarters. Chaired by Morocco, the meeting focused on the latest developments in Palestine, Syria and Libya. The Council reviewed the implementation of the Arab Summit and Arab Foreign Ministers' resolutions, stressing the need for resumption efforts to develop the Arab League charter, institutions and extend financial support to the Palestinian Authority. Dr. Nabil Al Arabi, Secretary-General of the Arab League, briefed the permanent representatives about his contacts with Arab, regional, international parties, as well as UN Secretary-General, regarding the latest developments on the Palestinian issue in the light of outcomes of the direct Palestinian-Israel talks. He added that meeting comes a day ahead of the end of talks on 29th April. The meeting also discussed the latest developments in Syria amid the declaration of Syrian authorities of the presidential elections on 3rd June. Al Arabi stressed the Arab support to the Palestinian issue, resolve of the Syrian crisis and democratisation in Libya. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
