UAE Red Crescent donates Dh3.9 million to Sudanese Red Crescent
Khartoum: UAE Ambassador to Sudan, Hassan Ahmed Sulaiman Al Shehi, yesterday handed over a donation of Dh3.5 million from UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) to the Secretary-General of Sudanese Red Crescent, Othman Ja'far, in support for programmes to sponsor 5500 Sudanese orphans and a number of people with special needs.
In his remarks as he handed over the cheque to Mr. Ja'far at the UAE Embassy, Ambassador Al Shehi expressed thanks for President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Their Highnesses, Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and President of RCA, for their support to humanitarian and charity work.
Al Shehhi also hailed the efforts of RCA in Sudan noting that UAE, thanks to the humanitarian vision of its leadership which represents a firm approach in its foreign policy, has achieved the first position as the world's largest donor country of official development assistance (ODA) in 2013 with the highest Official Development Assistance/Gross National Income ratio (ODA/GNI ratio), according to Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Since its establishment, U.A.E, has always extended a helping hand to all peoples facing natural disasters and crises as part of its policy established by the nation's late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
