RI INDUSTRY MINISTRY, CHINA`S SHAANXI PROVINCE TO COOPERATE
Jakarta, Nov 27 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Industry Minisry and the government of China's Shaanxi province have signed an agreement to cooperate in efforts to enhance the research and development capabilities of Indonesia's manufacturing industry.
The agreement was contained in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by secretary general of Indonesia's inudstry ministry, Agus Tjahajana, and secretary general of the People's Government of Shaanxi province, Qin Zheng, during an Indonesia-China Industry Cooperation Forum here Thursday.
Present at the signing ceremony were also Industry Minister Fahmi Idris, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Zhang Qi-Yue and Shanxi Governor Yuan Chun-Qing.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said Shaanxi was one of China's five most industrially advanced provinces.
It was in consideration of Shaanxi's potentials that Indonesia had decided to cooperate with the Chinese province, especially in research and development in such fields as machine manufacturing, automotive, oil and gas industrial equipment and even in agribusiness, the minister said.
Asked what strategic benefits Indonesia would gain from the cooperation, he said they were the high-technology capabilities needed to develop the same kinds of industries in Indonesia and greater interest to operate in Indonesia among Chinese investsrs.
Chinese Ambassador Zhang Qi-Yue meanwhile said Shaanxi was now one of China's important industrial bases having in recent years made rapid progress, especially in human, research and development, and scientific resources.
She said Shaanxi Governor Yuan Chun-Qing had come to Indonesia with more than 100 businessmen who wanted to establish contacts with Indonesian counterparts. In fact, some of them were to sign commercial contracts with Indonesian parties.
Earlier during the forum, Indonesian industry ministry secretary general Agus Tjahajana and the mayors of five cities in Shaanxi province-- Baoji, Xianyang, Yulin, Weinan and capital city Xi'an-- made presentations on business and investment opportunities in the their respective domains.
