WIPO CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN BALI EARLY DECEMBER

Denpasar, Bali Province, Nov. 28 (ANTARA) - The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will hold the 2nd International Conference on Intellectual Property and the Creative Industries, in Nusa Dua, Bali, December 2-4, 2008.
"The conference will be officially opened by Cultural and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik," Surya Dharma, a spokesman of the cultural and tourism ministry, said here on Friday.
The WIPO Conference will be attended among others by top government officials, representatives of the creative industries, civil society and academics.
The meeting will examine the potential of the creative industries in Asia and the role intellectual property (IP) in harnessing the increasing value of this sector.
Lord David Puttnam, British film producer and politician, will be the keynote speaker at the Conference, according to information on the WIPO website. Lord Puttnam has produced award-winning films such as Chariots of Fire and Midnight Express.
As part of the WIPO conference, the cultural and tourism ministry will also organize a national seminar on the Protection and Development of Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expression in cultural industry, according to Surya Dharma.
Governors, district heads, and mayors throughout Indonesia are expected to attend the seminar.
