APA PRESIDENT CLOSES 3RD PLENARY SESSION
Jakarta,Nov 29 (ANTARA) - Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) President Agung Laksono here Saturday officially closed the group's third plenary session which produced a number of resolutions in a Jakarta Declaration.
In his speech closing the meeting at the Jakarta Convention Center, Laksono said the various commissions of the meeting had drawn up a number of resolutions which were included in its Jakarta Declaration.
The energy commission chaired by Hezam bin Hazza Al-Otaibi from Saudi Arabia produced a resolution on the Integrated Energy Market in Asia.
The commision approved the proposal from the Indonesian delegation on the necessity to include non-fossil energy in the integrated energy market in Asia.
The resolution also emphasized the importance of tranparency and trust among APA members in the management of energy sources.
Meanwhile, the social culture commission produced a resolution on protecting and respecting cultural diversity in Asia which stressed the role of parliaments in strengthening national culture policies and harmonizing Asia's cultural diversity through Asian approaches.
It also affirmed the need to exchange information on Asia cultural diversity in making cooperation and viewed cooperations to prevent cultural items smuggling and its spreading which distract national and regional cultural values.
Another resolution was on combating corruption in Asia which encouraged parliaments in the region to ratify the United Nations Convention against Corruption soon.
A resolution on the challenges and opportunities of globalization in Asia stated that networks of APA member governments with NGOs to anticipate the negative impact of globalization should be created as well as sharing experiences to formulate strategies.
Besides that globalization-oriented policies debates should be strengthened through regional and continent workshops whereas common legislation among legislators should be built to lessen controversial aspects of globalization in Asia.
Spiritual and religious values were also mentioned as one way to prevent the negative impact.
Taking note on direction and strategy of WHO Commission on Social Determinant of Health to deal with health equity problems and social economy was also stated on "Resolution on Achieving Health Equity" besides urging legislators of APA to increase the health policy and cooperation among APA members.
Laksono said the most important thing in relation with the resolutions was their implementation by the respective governments. .
