Kazakhstan consulate opens in Saudi Arabia

Astana, 2 December 2008, (Khabar) - The official spokesman of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Yerzhan Ashykbayev has said that a Consulate of Kazakhstan has opened in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. The diplomatic mission is expected to render assistance to Kazakhstan’s citizens visiting Mecca and Medina. At the moment, Jeddah is home to many international financial organisations such as the Organization of the Islamic Conference. The Consulate’s activity is also to be aimed at the strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and member-states of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference which is to be chaired by the Republic in 2011. On the 5th of December, the President of Kazakhstan is set to head the 20th meting of the Council of Foreign Investors in Almaty. Since 1998, participants in the conference have been discussing the most topical issues of Kazakhstan’s investment activity. At the same time, between the 4th and the 5th of December, Helsinki is to stage a ministerial meeting of the OSCE member-states with Marat Tazhin to represent the Republic at the conference. At the end of the forum, Kazakhstan is to begin operating as part of the troika of OSCE chairmen.

- The minister for foreign affairs of Kazakhstan will take the floor during the session to report on Kazakhstan’s vision on the most topical issues in the OSCE as well as the Republic’s activity as the chair of the organisation.
