MONUMENT BUILT IN MEMORY OF KHALKH RIVER BATTLES VICTORY
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ This tank-monument has been erected at initiatives of a director of Museum of Nomadic Culture in Moscow Konstantin Kuksin and Mongolia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia Mr Sh.Altangerel and others.
Dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the great victory in Khalkh River Battles, this monument was shown September 10 in Moscow. Mr Kuksin and the Ambassador Altangerel opened the ceremony. Present were also Sergey Mironov, a member of State Duma and a chairman of a “Just Russia” political party; Bayar Jamsuev, a member of Federal Council of Russia; Nikolai Kravets, a veteran lieutenant colonel of the Khalkh River Batlles; and Vladimir Babushkin, a vice-chairman of “Friends of Mongolia” community. The anthems of Mongolia and Russian Federation were played after the ribbon cutting ceremony executed by Sh.Altangerel and Kravets. Then the Ambassador handed over memorial medals to Sergey Mironov and Bayar Jamsuev.
After this, the gathered watched a concert staged by the museum and viewed the museum exhibits. The artifacts of military and fire-arms from the Khalkh River Battles’ time, shown in Mongolian ger next to the new monument, have attracted an attention of many.
The erection of T-26 tank-monument is considered as one of the biggest actions run in the scope of the 75th anniversary. It has become the very first monument in Russia to be dedicated to the heroes of Khalkh River Battles.
