FNC, British Parliament discuss coordination of IPU

DUBAI (WAM): A number of members of the Federal National Council, FNC, members of the U.A.E. Parliamentary Division and members of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, headed by the Rt. Hon Alistair Burt, have discussed ways to strengthen the ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation between the FNC and the British Parliament. During the meeting, which held at the at the headquarters of the General-Secretariat of the Council in Dubai, they discussed mechanisms to strengthen relations of cooperation and coordination between the two groups at the meetings of the IPU and its various activities and to unify positions and views on the overall items on the agenda of the 131 Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held next October in Geneva. The two sides discussed the Strategic Plan of the International Parliamentary Union, and its impact reflected in recent years on the development of the activity of the international Parliament and its role in the service of international issues, enhancing the authority and role of parliamentary institutions, stressing the depth of the relationship that bind the parliaments and the two countries. The delegation of the British group expressed appreciation for the vital activity of the Emirati Parliamentary Division in the meetings of the Executive Committee and the permanent committees and sessions in the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The delegation also emphasised its support to proposals submitted by the FNC during parliamentary participations, noting that the Council has proven its role and leadership in activating the activities and work of the Federation for its contributions and initiatives, as well as constructive proposals to serve all Member States.
