Raja Of Perlis Launches Food Promotion In Melbourne

By Neville DCruz MELBOURNE, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Raja of the Malaysian state of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajauddin Syed Putra Jamalullail launched a two-week Perlis Food Promotion at the Malaysian Cafe in 432 St Kilda Road here on Sunday night. The Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who was also present at the event, invited Malaysians here to enjoy unique dishes from his state, which he said had impressed lovers of good food. He said food available during the promotion included 'nasi goreng istimewa', Arau chicken curry, Kangar beef rending, Fauzana chicken satay, 'ikan goreng sambal' and 'Laksa Perlis'. "We are very keen to promote our food internationally," said Tuanku Syed Faizuddin. "This is our 24th promotion overseas and we are delighted by the response from the public." Said the Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Perlis: "I am told Melbourne is the fine food capital of Australia and I am pleased Melbournians will have the opportunity to enjoy our food as well." He said food was becoming an important Malaysian tourism drive and he hoped Australians would be attracted to Perlis to tempt their tastebuds. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also spoke of Perlis's many attractions, especially its eco-tourism. Also present at the Perlis food promotion were the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tengku Fauziah binte Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid, Consul-General Dr Mohd Rameez Yahaya and wife, Noor Zulaikan Nangaie. The cafe in St Kilda Road, formely known as Delani, was recently acquired by Yazid Salleh and wife, Juliana Hong. They have another eatery in the beachside suburb of Brighton here. --BERNAMA
