Iran’s Chamran University produces transgenic animals

AHVAZ, Nov. 30 (MNA) – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Shahid Chamran University achieved the technology of producing transgenic animals.
Shahid Chamran University faculty member Doctor Mohammad Reza Tanabandeh explained that the production of first transgenic mice with high protein expression of leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) was achieved in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Chamran University after about two years of research and by using TMGT method considered as a new method in the production of these animals.
He added that the design and production of transgenic animals in recent years has significantly developed due to their numerous applications, especially in designing models of human diseases and production of recombinant drugs.
However, due to the design complexities and high cost of producing such models, a limited number of research centers have achieved the technology of producing these animals. Access to this technology is considered as one of the most important indicators of the development of research centers and universities active in this field.
Regarding the history of access to the technology of producing transgenic animals, Tanabandeh said that in recent years, a number of Iranian research centers and universities, in particular Jahad Royan Institute, have achieved this technology.
He reminded their role in treating animal models of Parkinson's disease and Multiple Sclerosis in future, stressing that new projects are scheduled to produce other transgenic animals in the upcoming research agenda of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
