Mosti To Propose Joint Committee Meeting With South Korea
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry of Malaysia (Mosti) will propose for a joint committee meeting with South Korea next year to further discuss potential partnerships and existing cooperation in science, technology and innovation between both countries.
In a statement Tuesday, the ministry said it welcomed the proposal from South Korea for a Nuclear Power Plant Cooperation Programme under the Second Wave of the Look East Policy.
For nuclear technology, the ministry said Malaysia has been focused on the application and utilisation of nuclear technology in agriculture, industry, medicine, environmental protection and human capital development.
"We hope that the programmes under this initiative will be further enhanced to include not only Nuclear Malaysia Agency, but higher education institutions in Malaysia as well," said its Minister, Dr Ewon Ebin.
Ewon is in Seoul, accompanying Prime Minister Najib Razak on his official visit to the republic.
The ministry said it would seek bilateral collaboration in forensic science between the Department of Chemistry Malaysia and the National Forensic Service of the Republic of Korea.
Meanwhile, SIRIM Malaysia and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, are currently in discussions to bring the Environmental Technology Verification system to Malaysia as one of their collaborative initiatives.
On Cybersecurity cooperation, Cybersecurity Malaysia has existing cooperation with several other organisations in Korea, including the National Forensic Services and Korea Internet Security Agency.
The ministry said both countries can leverage on each other's competitive edge in the biotechnology sector to develop a good partnership for the future.
