Jakarta, Dec 11 (ANTARA) - State-owned oil company PT Pertamina will import one million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per annum in the 2009-2019 period in order to meet the domestic need for the commodity, an executive of Pertamina said.

"Pertamina has invited 16 companies to help supply the LPG need," Marketing and Commercial Director of Pertamina Achmad Faisal said here on Thursday.

He made the remarks before attending a hearing between Director General of Mineral Resources and Gas Evita Legowo and the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission VII, which deals with energy affairs.

Faisal said among the companies that had been invited to supply LNG were Shell, BP, Petronas, A1 and Saudi Armaco.

Pertamina expected that it would sign long-term contracts for the purchase of LPG next week, Faisal said.

According to Faisal, half of the contracts were based on the cost, insurance and freight (CIF) conditions while the others on free on board (FOB).

Domestic Gas Affairs Director of Pertamina Wahyudin Akbar said in 2009 the domestic LPG consumption was estimated at 3-3.3 million tons. It rose from 2.2 million tons this year.

He said that one million tons of the 2.2 million ton domestic need this year came from Pertamina and one million tons from Pertamina's contractors such as Petrochina in Tanjung Jabung (Jambi) and ConocoPhillips in Belanak (Natuna) and the remaining 200,000 tons were imported. ***2***
