US EMBASSY CONGRATULATES RI FOR SUCCESSFUL ADMINISTRATIVE REFORMS

Bandung, Indonesia, Dec 12 (ANTARA) - The US Embassy in Jakarta, according to its press release here Friday, congratulated Indonesia for its Compact Eligibility status in the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

It was said that the decision of the MCC board on the Indonesian status achieved on December 11, 2008, was a recoqnition of the country's successul administrative reforms in several sectors namely good governance, investment in human resources, and economic freedom.

Countries eligible to the MCC Compact status are considered successful in the reforms in their policies. Furthermore, these countries will have the chance to give away a five-year big grant which will be used to overcome poverty.

"The MCC Compact Eligibility status for Indonesia is an uplifting and expected result from the work of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and his reform team. We are looking forward to cooperating with Indonesia in developing a strong MCC Compact," US Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron R Hume said.

During an assessment of the MCC Compact, the board values the work of a country through indicators such as independent and transparent policies given by third parties (such as Freedomhouse or the World Health Organization).

MCC evaluates a country's work using 17 policy indicators in three sectors namely Just Regulations, Investment in Human Resources, and Encouragement of Economic Freedom.
