INFLATION TO SETTLE TO 11 PCT BY YEAR END
Jakarta, Dec 12 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's inflation rate by the end of 2008 is expected to stand at 11 percent or below the 12 percent forecast by Bank Indonesia (BI or central bank) earlier, a BI official said.
"It may be a little above 11 percent but certainly far below 12 percent," BI Senior Deputy Governor Miranda S Goeltom said here on Friday.
She also said inflation in December was predictably lower than in November when the figure was recorded at 0.12 percent.
The inflation rate from January to November was 11.10 percent while the year-on-year inflation rate was 11.68 percent.
Regarding next year's inflation, Miranda said she predicted it would be far below 11 percent as inflationary pressures as a result of global developments had started to diminish.
"Next year, it will be better. We hope all that we have seen as pressure will vanish but not because of declining economic activities," she said.
She said efforts to promote the real sector need to be carried out because global inflation threats had declined as deflation continuously occurred in several countries.
Bank Indonesia previously predicted the rate of inflation in 2009 would be between 6.5 and 7.5 percent. The decreasing inflation pressure following the drop in the price of oil has made the bank optimistic that next year's inflation will be close to 6.5 percent.
