FERTILIZER PRODUCERS TOLD TO COOPERATE WITH GAS MAKERS
Jakarta, Dec 12 (ANTARA) - The government has asked fertilizer producers to establish cooperation with gas producers to smoothen the supply of raw materials.
"Gas is posing an obstacle to fertilizer producers, although to secure a bank loan, 10 years of gas supplies must be secured, and investors demand for 20 years of secured gas supplies," marketing director of PT Pupuk Sriwijaya Tbk Bowo Kuntohadi said in Jakarta Friday.
He added that an investor wishing to build a fertilizer producing plant must have 20 years of secured gas supplies. This request is difficult to negotiate, because 20 years are needed to have one's capital retured.
According to KPPU member Benny Pasaribu, the plan to move fertilizer factories to places near the sources of the raw materials, was a very good idea. But it would even be better, not to move the factories, but build a new one instead.
In the meantime, during a meeting of the special commitee of the Mineral and Coal Law at the House of Representativers, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said the government planned to move the factories to areas having food supplies.
