UAE's Compassion campaign raises Dh195m

Abu Dhabi, 13th January 2015 (WAM): The Compassion Campaign to help refugees affected by the cold wave in the Levant has raised Dh195 million to date, according to the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA). The campaign was launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and further endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The RCA's Secretary General, Dr. Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi, said the response to the campaign from the UAE citizens and residents was overwhelming. He further said that in addition to cash donations, philanthropists also contributed donations in kind. Just one day before the campaign was to come to a close, a convoy of eight trucks, carrying over 200 tonnes of winter aid, including food parcels, blankets and clothes, was sent to Jordan by the RCA. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395275006168.html
