ACEH RESIDENT CRITICAL AFTER BEING KICKED BY ELEPHANT

Tapaktuan, Aceh Province, Dec. 13 (ANTARA) - Dulah Abadi, 51, a resident of Koto Manggamat, Kluet sub district, South Aceh District, was reported in critical condition after being kicked by a wild elephant in a patchouli plantation at Srotan village recently.

"He is now just lying in bed in a weak condition in his home at Koto Manggamt village," Rabbal Amsyah, Abadi's nephew, said here on Saturday.
The incident occurred when Dulah Abadi was trying to drive away an adult elephant which was attacking his nut plants.
"I think, he was too close to the elephant when trying to drive away the animal. He did not have a chance to escape when the elephant turned around and attacked him," he said.
Dulah Abadi was injured in his head, left hand, left flank, and the right part of his back, he said.
Sadi Amrita, former head of the Koto Manggamat youth community, urged concerned authorities to drive away or tame wild elephants which often disturbed local farmers.
"Tens of hectares of plantation areas in our region have been damaged as they were trampled by elephants. And many local people are frightened by the big animals which often chase them," he said.
