MASSIVE ARTISTIC PROGRAM TO MARK DEC 31 IN DENPASAR
Denpasar, Dec 13 (ANTARA) - As many as 1,500 artists from Denpasar and environs are to participate in a year-end extravaganza dubbed "Melepas Matahari 2008" (Goodbye to the Sun 2008) at the Puputan Badung field here on Dec 31.
"Various artistic activities will take place on December 31 2008 from morning until midnight," Kadek Suardana, the event's coordinator, said here Saturday.
Held for the eighth time to date, the event would include a Balinese food festival, a cultural parade, and dance performances.
Suardana said the event would start with the Bali culinary festival followed by the parade, traditional sports and games.
In the afternoon, there would be a cultural parade through Denpasar's main streets participated in by Barong and Pelegongan dance , Ponorogo Reog troupes, and Pencaksilat (traditional martial arts) teams.
The evening would be marked by joged bumbung and janger mass dance shows as well as musical poem and ballet performances. The event would be ended with a "Rajapala" ballet dance spectacle beginning at 10.30 pm.
