RI'S MILITARY TO ANTICIPATE TERROR AND CONFLICT DURING ELECTION
Jakarta, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's military (TNI) chief General Djoko Santoso, here Sunday, said that his staff would anticipate every terror threats and conflict before, during and after the general election in 2009.
"The military together with Indonesian Police (Polri) will never trivialize any small threat that may jeopardize the election in the future. Any threat like terrorism or conflict will be anticipated," the general said after leading a race walking for the commemoration of the 2008 Mother's Day anniversary at the military headquarters in Cilangkap, Jakarta.
It is for that purpose, Djoko said TNI and Polri would held joint threat combatment training December 19 to 24, 2008. The activity was meant to build coordination and readiness of each unit of the military and police.
The training, Djoko said, was expected to form a joint action to to combat threat quickly, accurately, effectively and efficiently in cooperation with the police as soon as possible.
In addition to the handling of terror and threats, Djoko further stressed that intelligence cooperation between the two institutions will be formed during the training so as to detect any threats at the beginning.
"By doing so, please don't trivialize us. We'll detect, predict and handle the treats and terror at early stage effectivly, accurately and quickly," the general said.
A joint training between TNI and Polri will involve personnel representing special forces of anti-terror detachment (army), Jalamangkara Detachment (navy), Bravo Detachment (air force), and military regional command (kodam) across Indonesia.
