MINISTER KABAN OPTIMISTIC TO GROW OVER 100 MILLION PLANTS
Bogor, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - Forestry Ministry MS Kaban was optimistic that his side would be able to grow around 100 million plants as already launched by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in late November this year.
"I am optimistic about it, because big scale activities in growing plant seeds in a big number on Java island are on rise," he said after planting the plant symbocally here on Sunday.
It was said that report received from Central Java said that around 31.6 million plant seeds had been planted, followed by East Java with 20 million plant seeds reported to have been planted.
"If West Java and other regions are also active in growing plant seeds, I am optimistic that the targetted 100 million trees to be planted in late December can be exceeded," he said.
Kaban also expressed his thanks to the Forestry Faculty Alummaes Association of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) and the Indonesian Volley Ball Association which had succeeded in motivating around 150 community groups to grow 15,000 plant seeds along the side of Ciliwung, Cisadane and Cimandiri rivers.
According to him, it was a manifestation of the president's appeal to grow around 100 million trees in late December this year.
The action of 150 community groups to grow 15,000 plants seeds, according to him, constituted a form of bigger awareness of the community in Bogor on the importance of growing and preserving the trees already planted.
By keeping on growing plant seeds in critical land and along the river side, it was expected that it would be able to reduce the impact of flood and landslide to happen in the future, thus creating green and healthy environment.
The impact of environmental damage are natural disasters like flood and landslide during the rainy season, rising temperature of the earth, changable and irregular season and sea abrassion that will threaten the supply of food.
Kaban called on the people to change their way of thinking from "cutting the trees" into "planting the trees", thus loving green environment.
