PRESIDENT: S SUMATRA TO BECOME DIGNIFIED PROVINCE

Palembang, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said if the development and betterment of infrastructure in South Sumatra could be improved, local government's intention to make the region as the most dignified, advanced and prosperous would come true.

"I am very happy with South Sumatra Governor who really understands the priority of development in this region," the president said in his speech before officiating a number of projects in this province, here, on Sunday.
It was said that the implementation of development goals was to improve social welfare of the people in this region. The people's prosperity could be further improved, if all their needs with better quality could be met.

"In addition, our needs for food could also be met, while this year's needs for our food is much better because we have been self-sufficient in rice. Generally, food production could be further increased," Yudhoyono said.

With regard to the secondry need for house, many people in Indonesia did not have any houses. Therefore, the local government with a policy to continously build low priced houses, the people would be able to have houses.

Touching on free of charge education, accordingly the local government should create a step designed to help 'the have nots' get a free of charge education, Yudhoyono said.

To all governors, district heads and mayors, the president reminded them of taking several things into account, among other improvement in the quality of education and public health services, the lowering of the number of poor people, the creation of bigger job opportunity, many infrastructure projects that could be built and enhanced and good governance.
As to better development of infrastructures like road, bridges, piers of seaport, Yudhoyono said that they were badly needed to smoothen the transportation flow of goods and services.

It was said that state budget was much spent on infrastructure development projects in this province which was reluctant to be lagging behind other provinces, as South Sumatra was rich in coal and oil/gas.
