VEEP : GOVT READY TO BUILD MORE LPG STORAGE UNITS

Jakarta, Dec 14 (ANTARA) - Vice President Yusuf Kalla said the government will immediately build more liguified petrolium gas (LPG) storage units to anticipate gas scarcity in the future.

The remark was made by the vice president when having a close look at the LPG depot in Tanjung Periok here on Sunday together with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Apparatuses Empowerment Minister Taufik Efendi and Home Minister Mardiyanto.
According to him, a ring of LPG production and distribution was longer than that of kerosine that had to go through several stages in order to reach the consumers. The stages were production, shipment, delivery to LPG depot, storage at the depot, delivery to fuel oil filling stations and then enjoyed by the consumers.
"All steps should have similar force. This is what we call as a dilemma of success. When a kerosine-to-gas convertion program is implemented, there is still such an uncertainly from the government, businessmen and the community," Kalla said.

But, he added, in further development of gas use, LPG as fuel oil was then enjoyed and liked by community on account of its cleanliness, cheap cost compared to the price of kerosine.

Earlier, Kalla said the constraints hampering the supply of LPG was due to a delay in the gas shipment. Therefore, the government promised to make any delay in the shipment of gas by vessels in the future anymore.

"It is expected that there will be no any delay in the schedule of shipping fleet, so that the supply of gas will run normally," the vice president said.

According to him, the scarcity of gas was inseparable from technical troubles found in filling stations in Cilacap and Indramayu (Balongan) in addition to an accelarated implementation of kerosine-to-gas conversion program.

"We are very grateful that the government's effort to convert the use of fuel oil from kerosine to gas was highly welcomed by the people and practically the government is attempting to make it better in the future," Kalla said.
