STATE FIRMS' DIVIDENDS PROJECTED AT RP31 TRILLION THIS YEAR

Padang, W Sumatra, Dec 13 (ANTARA) - The government expects state-owned companies' dividends to contribute Rp31.4 trillion to the 2008 state budget, an official said.

The target of state firms' dividends was previously set at Rp23.4 trillion but the Finance Ministry later wanted it raised by Rp8 trillion to Rp31.4 trillion, a senior adviser to the state enterprises minister, Pandu Djajanto, said at a workshop here at the weekend.
The target represented a Rp7.6 trillion rise compared to 2007 when state firms' dividends contributed Rp23.8 trillion to the state budget, he said.

"The 2007 contribution of state firms' dividends exceeded the government-set target of Rp21.8 trillion," he said.

He said the contribution of the state firms' dividends to the state budget showed an upward trend over the past five years.
