Iran builds self-charging wheelchair

TEHRAN, Feb. 04 (MNA) – An Iranian inventor could build a wheelchair which stores energy to provide longer travel distance for users.
Alireza Khodakaramzadeh, a chemical engineering student at Sharif University and inventor of the ‘automatic wheelchair capable of storing energy’, told Mehr News that he has used flywheel in his wheelchair which can store mechanical energy.
Because of the energy stored in wheelchair, he said, the user does not need to spend a lot of energy to move it.
KhodaKaramzadeh added, when someone moves a wheelchair forward, the energy by the person is stored in the wheelchair and that is why the greatest distance with the least energy is provided for user.
“The flywheel used in this type of wheelchair can store energy from pedaling and releases it gradually so that the person can go greater distance without rolling the wheels," the inventor said.
The newly invented wheelchair has been participated in Tehran and Alborz Invention & Innovation Festival and holds three levels of National Elites Foundation.
