UTHM's Lab Receives International Accreditation

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- The Centre for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMCcenter) under the Research Centre for Applied Electromagnetics, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has received recognition as a world-class laboratory. The EMCcenter was awarded the MS ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation certificate under the Laboratory Accreditation Scheme Malaysia, Department of Standards Malaysia, which is effective for three years from Dec 15, 2014. "Our EMCcenter is the only lab in a Malaysian university that has successfully achieved the standard in the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility," EMCcenter, head, Prof Dr Mohd Zarar Mohd Jenu said. In a statement Wednesday, he said the accreditation allows the lab to carry out EMC tests and deliver credible test reports. Clients wanting to export electrical and electronic products to international markets such as Europe, America and Japan could use the test reports. Mohd Zarar said the centre is actively involved in studies and tests involving the effects of electromagnetic waves toward equipment and humankind. Apart from testing services, the center provides research, training, consultancy, troubleshooting and computer simulation works. "We aim to support the growth of the electrical and electronic industry in Malaysia to ensure their products are able to penetrate international markets," he said. Mohd Zarar said the centre plans to expand its test scope to include automotive components and defence in the near future. "We hope the government will provide grants for the construction of the buildings and equipment needed," he added. -- BERNAMA
