GAS STATIONS LOWER PREMIUM GASOLINE, AUTOMOTIVE DIESEL OIL PRICE
Jakarta, Dec 15 (ANTARA)- Some gas stations in Jakarta early Monday (Dec 15) cut further the Premium gasoline price from Rp5,500 to Rp5,000 and automotive diesel oil from Rp5,500 to Rp4,800 per liter respectively.
The price cut of the two types of the subsidized fuel oil was effective from December 15, 2008 or Sunday night (00.00 local time-WIB) after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced price lowering of premium gasoline and automotive diesel oil on Sunday afternoon.
"We immediately put new price tag for premium gasoline and automotive diesel oil at 00.00 hrs," said Jamal, a gas station worker at a gas station (SPBU) at Menteng area, Central Jakarta on early Monday.
The government had cut the price of subsidized premium gasoline by Rp500 to Rp5,500 per liter effective December 1, 2008. The decision was based on the global crude prices which in recent weeks had declined to below US$60 per barrel.
Jamal said he was instructed by the SPBU's owner to fix the new price tag, adding that there was no request from his employer to close the SPBU at the moment regarding the price cut.
"Actually we did not close the SPBU when the premium gasoline price cut happened on December 1, 2008, but our stock of premium gasoline ran out at the moment," Jamal said.
In addition, Gogom, another gas station worker at Jl. Kramat Raya said that his SPBU always kept open at the moment.
Earlier, chairman of the Indonesian Democrat Party Executive Board, Anas Urbaningrum said that the government's decision was aimed at boosting the real sector and anticipating the impact of the global financial crisis.
Anas also said that the decision to lowering further premium gasoline price was not aimed at stepping up the (president's) popularity. ***2***
